What to expect
Weight of Shipment
We will take the difference of “the weight of the loaded truck” - “the weight of the empty truck” to conclude the weight of your shipment, and match it to the rates listed in our tariff.
Mileage Used to Determine Rate
As a regulated moving company we must use the Mileage 2-D Guide tool provided by the Illinois Commerce Commission to assess the total mileage for the contract. If you are picking up or delivering to multiple locations in the same city along your route, we would list that county or city twice to gather total miles.
Access Charges
For Long-Haul moves, your shipment’s weight is used to calculate the charge of a per-stair / per-elevator rate. If there are any long-carries between the truck to your apartment door, or a requirement to have a shuttle when a full-size truck can’t reach the door, we will notify you.
Minimum Charges
We charge based on a 4,000 pound minimum which ensures that we are providing utmost care and support throughout the move without worrying about the clock, given that weight-rate move base is at a flat-rate.
Overtime Charges
We charge “overtime” for any weekday move after 6:00 and before 8:00AM (different from our local moves) OR holiday dates. Our Overtime Charge is $5.00 per 100 lbs and defined as “at request of the shipper (that’s you!), landlord or public ordinances.”
Packing Materials
These charges are defined in our Container Rentals Program under the rental and purchasable supplies sections.
Overnight Holds
In the event that we are to hold onto your items overnight, we will charge $300/Night in the Summer and $200/Night during the winter.
Extra Labor Charges
In the event that you request personal assistance, personal organization, or services outside of the typical expectations or job scope of a moving company, you will still be charged at an hourly rate equivalent to the hourly rates estimated for your move.

AMTR came in and saved my recent residential move after I had a snafu and needed last-minute help. Thank you to David and Trix (sp?) in the front office. They went above and beyond to process my request and coordinate my last-minute move during busy season. These folks are staying late to make sure their customers and teams are all set. I'm glad I didn't cry on the phone because they didn't ask for that, but I was so relieved I could have! Onsite, foreman Lancaster and his team of three were so kind and efficient. They worked hard through intense heat, a sudden torrential downpour, power going out leading to a darkened stairwell, and moving extra items from my last-minute packing. My items all arrived safe and the guys were careful with my things. I did a lot of prepacking and wrapping, but they made sure that everything I didn't think to wrap or box was protected. We used AMTR to move from Chicago to NYC and had a fantastic experience. Each step of the way they took care of everything & communication was phenomenal. Lancaster, Orlando, Eduardo, and Benji took care of packing everything up and loading up the truck. They were extremely careful with our stuff, going above and beyond to separate fragile items and giving extra care to make sure they made it to NYC safely. Since this was a 2 day process, they even made sure to leave a few things to the next day (toothbrushes, soap, etc) so we had everything we needed in the evening. They were prompt, responsive, and finished everything so quickly! During the whole process, Trix & David were great about communicating with us each step of the way, and Trix personally drove our stuff out himself after someone else was out sick to ensure that we were able to get everything moved within a tight weekend timeline. I’m super grateful we went with AMTR and would highly recommend them!! I’ve probably moved 10+ times in the last 15 years and this was easily the most stress-free move I’ve ever had.

Orlando, Francisco, and Eduardo did a fantastic job helping us move into our new condo despite the setbacks. They arrived a few hours late due to a prior move that morning, and halfway through our move in Wicker Park, the elevator broke! They had no choice but to walk our heavy furniture down the stairs from the 4th floor. Through all the difficulties, they remained positive and professional, and at the end of the day, they were able to move everything into our new home in Albany Park without damaging a single item AND managed to keep to the four-hour schedule despite losing the elevator.
